Young J-Hawks pick up first wins in girls basketball

LISLE – The Jefferson J-Hawks picked up its first two wins of the year at the Lisle Christmas tournament, a significant step forward in the program’s reboot.

Jefferson (2-14) lost its tourney opener to Walter Lutheran but rebounded to beat Coal City, 47-33, and Lisle, 42-39. The J-Hawks fell to Timothy Christian in its other game.

The wins were the first since Jefferson beat Guilford at the Rumble In The Rock in 2016. Last year, the school didn’t have enough interested, eligible players to field a varsity team.

Instead, the school administration focused on rebuilding the program through the lower levels.

This year’s varsity team is made up of one junior, two sophomores and five freshmen.

Camron Blank, one of the two sophomores, was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 13.5 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Freshman Karley Colson averaged 12.5 points per game in the tournament.
