Tragic loss to start football season

Tonight’s season-opening game between East and Belvidere North in Belvidere will have a moment of silence for Mason Crowe Hada.

The 16-year-old Hada had just left football practice Thursday night when his car was struck by another vehicle being driven by an 18-year-old. Hada was killed in the crash.

The junior was going to be playing his first varsity football game tonight and was going to be starting at linebacker. Instead, the team held a candlelight vigil Thursday night.

Hada’s mother posted a note on Facebook, asking “Everyone come show love for my baby boy.”

East coach Gary Griffin posted a note shortly after learning of the crash.

“A kid who was getting to start his first varsity football game is now instead heaven bound,” Griffin wrote. “Slow down! No one should lose their life because you are in a hurry.”
