Rockford Robotics getting some off-season work in this weekend

ROCKFORD – Rockford Robotics, a group of students from all Rockford Publics Schools high schools, will be among 32 teams competing this Saturday in the Rock River Robotics Off-Season Competition.

The seventh annual competition takes place Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rock Valley College PE Center.

FIRST Robotics is a national competition where students have to build a robot from scratch each school year. The robot has to perform a series of functions in competition in the second semester and the functions change annually.

The off-season competition serves as a kickoff to the year before the students meet to design and build the new robots.

Collins Aerospace, PCI Pharma Services and Woodward are sponsoring Saturday’s event. For the third straight year, four $1,000 scholarships will be funded by the R20C and Rock Valley College foundations and another $6,000 in grant funds will go to the five Rock River Valley robotics teams.
