Last thanks to East’s super seniors

In May, East announced its annual top awards and scholarship winners.

  • Athletes of the Year: Roberto Davila and Kabrea Jamerson.
  • Scholar Athletes of the Year: Hailey Hunter and Jack Bathje.,
  • Austin Rux Memorial Scholarship: Carter Wyatt.
  • Craig Stalcup Memorial Scholarship: Tay’Veon Lake.

Austin Rux was an East student who died just before his sophomore year in 2011. The Austin Rux scholarship goes to an athlete who displays the most sportsman ship. Wyatt played football, baseball and wrestled at East.

Craig Stalcup was an East football coach who died of cancer in the early 1980s. His schoarlship goes to players who personify Stalcup’s saying, “E-Rab Pride means never giving up.” Lake set the all-time career rushing record for all of District 205.

Hunter played soccer and volleyball and was a member of the competitive dance team while maintaining a 3.7 GPA. Bathje compiled a 3.5 GPA while competing on the golf, track, cross country and swimming teams.

Davila won the NIC-10 MVP award in soccer, while Jamerson broke East’s all-time scoring mark in girls basketball.
