Jefferson tops Auburn to open girls soccer season

ROCKFORD – Samantha Resendiz scored with about three minutes left in the second overtime to lead Jefferson to a 3-2 win over Auburn to open the NIC-10 girls soccer season.

Resendiz had put Jefferson out front in the first half with her first goal and the J-Hawks went up 2-0 when Nadia Luna scored early in the second half. But Auburn sent the game into overtime off of two goals Ahyanna Tomczak, the second of which was set up Ana Maria Reyes.

Neither time scored in the first overtime and the game appeared to be heading towards a shootout when Resendiz lofted a shot over Auburn goalie Ella Grothman.
