Jefferson picks up first win under Arnold

ROCKFORD – The Jefferson J-Hawks scored 40 unanswered points to win their first game under coach Jacob Arnold.

Guilford jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter. The Vikings scored two touchdowns on its first seven plays, a 21-yard run by George Curry and a 47-yard scamper by Kevin Woods.

It was all J-Hawks in the final three quarters, though. Jefferson outgained the Vikings 277-137 on the ground and Guilford’s quarterbacks were just 1-for-10 in passing.

“We didn’t make any big adjustments,” Arnold said of Jefferson’s effort after the first quarter. “We just told to tighten up and play with some pride.”

D’Ario Newble led Jefferson with 110 yards on eight carries and Quay Robinson added 80 yards on 18 tries. Six different J-Hawks scored a touchdown.
