Hillman, Jefferson still tops in virtual 2.05 Run entries

ROCKFORD – With less than two days to go, Hillman Elementary and Jefferson High School lead in the number of entrants for annual Rockford Public Schools 2.05 Run.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic restricting public gatherings, this year’s 2.05 Run is virtual.

The school that has the most supporters enter wins a $500 prize and second place receives $250 towards its athletics programs.

You have until the end of day Friday, June 12, to register. If you get your time in as well before the deadline you are eligible to win one of five local prize packages. You can sign up at  https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Rockford/205Run.

As of June 11, 277 have registered for the race, helping RPS surpass its fundraising goal despite the pandemic. As one of the major events for the Rockford Sports Coalition, which supports athletics in the district’s high schools and middle schools, the support shows how much athletics still means in Rockford.

So far, 124 have completed and turned in their 2.05-mile run times. Peter Najem of Rockford is the clubhouse leader with a time of 10:58. Olivia Ramirez has the fastest time among the women with a 15:25.

For those that have registered, June 26 is pickup day for your t-shirt. You can pick up the shirt any time between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. that Friday at Fleet Feet Rockford, 1653 N. Alpine Road.
