Guilford just misses out on NIC-10 girls swimming title

The Guilford Vikings finished second in this weekend’s NIC-10 girls swimming championships, missing out on the conference title by just nine points.

It was a tough finish considering that the Vikings’ 200-yard medley relay team, featuring two of its top swimmers, was disqualified.

Still, there were several outstanding performances turned in by Guilford and Auburn swimmers. The Knights finished third on the day.

* Ella Gasparini won the 200-yard individual medley over Auburn’s Ursula Koch and also the 100-yard breaststroke over the Knights’ Ava Hayes.

* Mikayla Durkin took first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyles.

* Gasparini and Durkin teamed up with Stella Seminerio and Loral Hess to win the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Auburn won one conference title. Hayes and Koch teamed up with Erica Kuhar and Ella Roxworthy to win the 200-yard medley relay.

The top finish by an East swimmer came from Ella Gray, who was 10th in the 100-yard freestyle.
