Friske, Scanlon led E-Rabs to 4th in East St. Louis JJK Invitational

EAST ST. LOUIS – The East E-Rabs boys track team won three events and recorded 17 top-10 finishes in Saturday’s JJK Invitational.

East took fourth overall out of 14 teams, showing off impressive depth in its younger athletes.

Senior Noah Friske, though, led the way. The two-time NIC-10 cross country champion dominated the 800-meter run. He ran the race in a personal-record time of 2:06.99, winning by nearly three seconds over East St. Louis’ Dennis Doublin (2:09.74).

Friske followed that up with an even bigger win in the 1,600 meters. Friske ran a 4:49.22. Camryn Whitney of Kenwood was a distant second at 5:07.0.

Sophomore Hunter Scanlon brought home the other E-Rab first-place medal. Scanlon edged teammate Jason Buis in the discus. Scanlon had a throw of 140-0, edging Buis’ 139-0.

The E-Rabs girls team also competed in East St. Louis, taking 20th out of 23 teams. Kayla Wells won the pole vault with a height of 10-0. The 4×800 team finished ninth and senior Caroline Mickle finished 10th in the 1,600 meters.
