ESPN features progress of District 205 sports

Five years after featuring the Rockford Public Schools’ decision to eliminate requiring RPS athletes meet a tougher grade point standard than any other school in the NIC-10, ESPN’s Outside The Lines revisited the issue this week.

In 2012, when ESPN first met with Rockford Public School issues, the GPA requirement was a contentious issue. Although District 205 programs clearly aren’t back to the levels they were in the 1980s when they dominated sports such as football, track & field and basketball, they have made tremendous strides since ESPN was last here.
