East, Guilford best RPS bets in summer league tournament

East and Guilford finished up varsity summer league play at 5-3 and will open on opposite sides of the bracket in next week’s championship tournament.

The three-week “regular season” wrapped up Tuesday night at East High School. The E-Rabs lost to Belvidere North, 42-36, but then rebounded to edge Harlem, 36-34.

Guilford lost its first game to Hononegah, 47-47, but came back to beat Byron, 60-36.

Auburn finished the summer league at 4-4. The Knights also split Tuesday, losing to Dixon, 50-47, and then beating Boylan, 40-31.

Jefferson has to replace most of its starters from last season and struggled to a 2-6 record.

The summer tournament opens next Monday. East plays its opener at 6 p.m. in the main gym against Sycamore. If you want to watch future RPS players in action then 8 p.m. Monday is the best time. Guilford plays Winnebago in the East Field House on court one, Jefferson plays Belvidere North on court two and Auburn plays Freeport on court three.
