Coates could be RPS’ next NFL player

Rockford Register Star writer Jay Taft this week detailed the path of Guilford’s Julius Coates to big-time college football.

The former Vikings wide receiver has filled out to 6-6, 289 pounds and, after stops at two different junior colleges, has turned himself into a disruptive defensive lineman for the University of Arkansas.

Coates, along with Rockford East graduate Robert Jones and Auburn’s Vederian Lowe, have excellent chances to make an NFL roster in the next two years.
