Auburn’s Nevenhoven one match from history

BUFFALO GROVE – Auburn junior Belen Nevenhoven is one match from winning the first girls state tennis title not only in District 205 history but in NIC-10 history.

On Friday, Nevenhoven knocked off Auburn Rabjohns of Lake Forest, 6-4, 6-3, and Ali Benedetto of Winnetka New Trier, 6-4, 6-4.

The two wins already give her the distinction of the first Rockford Public Schools girls player to reach a state final.

In NIC-10 history, only Eva Marcial of Belvidere, Belen’s aunt, made a state final. She finished second in 1996.

On Saturday, Nevenhoven will play Kiley Rabjohns of Lake Forest. It’ll be quite an accomplishment for Nevenhoven to beat Rabjohns. She’s the defending Class 2A state champion.
