Auburn wins NIC-10 tennis title by barest of margins

ROCKFORD – Auburn dominated the NIC-10 tennis meet in 2018, but the conference title this year came to the final match.

The final result was the same. Auburn Knights, boys tennis champions.

In the decisive match, Monday night, Auburn’s Chris Park and Drew Licari beat Harlem’s Lucas Crane and Anthony Buffington, 6-3, 6-4, to win the No. 1 doubles title.

Because of an interesting series of calculations, that gave Auburn 52.4 points to Hononegah’s 52.

Guilford was fourth with 41 points.

The Knights ended up winning two championships. Quinten Nevenhoven won his second straight No. 1 singles title over Preston Engel of Freeport.

Isaac Bergsten and Wyatt Morris finished second at No. 2 doubles.

Guilford’s top finishes came from Alex Wolfe, who was second at No. 2 singles and Joe Gesner, who was third at No. 1 singles.
