Auburn singles stars sail into IHSA tennis sectional semis

ROCKFORD – Quinten Nevenhoven and Chris Park kept alive hopes for an all Auburn IHSA sectional final with two dominating victories Friday.

Nevenhoven, the top seed in the IHSA 2A sectional at Auburn, was perfect on the day, winning a pair of 6-0, 6-0 matches against Alex Kershaw of Crystal Lake Central and Enrique Ravclo of McHenry.

Park had to work a little harder. The No. 3 seed beat Aaron Leighty of Hononegah, 6-2, 6-2, and Liam Nielsen of McHenry, 6-2, 6-1.

Both Nevenhoven and Park have qualified for next week’s IHSA state tournament.

Play begins today at 8 a.m. Nevenhoven takes on Hononegah’s Thomas Ptacin, the No. 5 seed. Park has a bigger mountain to overcome. He plays Crystal Lake Central’s Thomas Wallace, who, like Nevenhoven, won both of his Friday matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
