Auburn, Guilford lead second-day RPS charge in Showcase

ROCKFORD – The Auburn Knights earned a Sunday morning game against undefeated Omaha Westside of Nebraska by winning both of its Saturday games.

Auburn stunned Evansville Bosse of Indiana by scoring 16 of the final 18 points to win 57-53 in its first game Saturday in the Chicagoland Summer Showcase.

The Knights, now 3-1 in the Showcase, followed that up with a 59-44 win over Belleville Althoff Catholic in the final set of games Saturday night.

That earned Auburn a 10:10 game at Rock Valley College against Westside, which has beaten Springfield Lanphier, 51-46, Centerville, 51-44, and Granite City, 57-46.

Guilford also went 2-0 Saturday. The Vikings beat Chicago Schurz, 56-39, and Harlem, 57-44. Guilford plays Huntley at 9 a.m.

East split its games. The E-Rabs dropped a close one to Omaha Benson of Nebraska, 69-66, before crushing Dixon, 75-35. East takes on Madison La Follette at RVC at 9 a.m.

Jefferson fell to La Follette, 59-53, and Bellevue West, 61-39. The J-Hawks play Brookfield Academy at 10:10 at Guilford High School.
