Auburn football, Auburn tennis among top performers



ROCKFORD – A year after setting a record for touchdown passes at Auburn, Khamani Sanders threw four more to open the season with a 45-6 win over Guilford.

The Knights play Freeport next Friday.

Auburn’s girls tennis team won the eight team Niles North/West Invitational on Saturday. Two-time NIC-10 champion Belen Nevenhoven went 3-0 in singles. Paris Thompson and Amy Park won No. 1 doubles and Alyssa Tripp and Maddie Harned won No. 2 doubles.

The Jefferson J-Hawks and East E-Rabs are off to hot starts in boys soccer. Jefferson is 2-0-1 after beating Keith Country Day School, 5-0, Auburn, 3-0, and then tied Dixon on Saturday, 2-2. Jefferson hosts Byron on Tuesday.

The E-Rabs are 4-1 and have 18 goals scored against five given up. Roberto Davila and Roberto Velazquez each have four goals scored each. Diego Medina has four assists. The E-Rabs play at Belvidere North on Tuesday.

Guilford and Auburn are off to 1-1 starts in the NIC-10 volleyball race. The Vikings and Knights play at Guilford on Tuesday.

Harlem Invitational Cross Country on Saturday. Owen Dahlberg was the top Viking finisher at 18th. Jackson Durso was 22nd and Salvador Salas-Godinez was 23rd.

East took second in the Jefferson Cross Country Invitational. Sophomore Miles Lang was third individually and Leonard Curtis was 10th.
