Two Flinn wrestlers shine at IKWF tourney

ROCKFORD – Flinn eighth-grader Jack Seacrist won his second straight Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation state title Saturday and seventh-grader Lee Smith worked his way to a second-place finish.

The massive tournament draws wrestlers from across the state in 17 weight classes in two divisions.

Seacrist, who won the IKWF 115-pound novice title in 2018, won four matches to win the 138-pound title in the senior division. Seacrist won all kinds of ways. He had majority decision and a pin to reach the semifinals. There, he pitched a 6-0 shutout of Cruz Ibarra of Oswego. In the title match, he dominated Joshua Franklin of University Park, 10-3.

Flinn seventh-grader Lee Smith Jr. almost joined Seacrist at the top of the medal stand. Smith advanced to the senior 215-pound championship but fell short in an 8-5 loss to Charlie Jagusah of Junior Pioneer Wrestling Club.
