Two E-Rabs qualify for state wrestling meet

BARRINGTON – Two East E-Rabs earned another week of wrestling.

Sophomore Joey Pineda finished second in the IHSA Class 3A Barrington Sectional at 285 pounds.

Pineda won a paiir of close decisions, beating Edgar Vazquez of Waukegan, 3-0, and Keeegan Houlihan of Lincolnshire Stevenson to reach the finals. There, he ran into Jason Guardarrama, a Mundelein senior, who pinned Pineda to improve to 40-2 on the season. Pineda will take a 22-7 record to state.

He’ll be joined at state by senior Eh Ta Sor, who finished fourth in the 113-pound weight class.

Sor won his opening round match against Eli Polacek by majority decision before losing to Lorenzo Frezza of Stevenson. Sor rebounded to beat Trevor Jean of Libertyville, Syed Hussaini of Waukegan and then dominate Nolan Florez of Grant, 15-4, to earn his slot at state.  Sor lost to Frezza again in the third-place match. 

Sor will take a 24-7 record to state.
