Three RPS wrestlers heading to state

BARRINGTON – Two wrestlers from East and one from Auburn qualified for next week’s IHSA Class 3A state meet.

Aydin Guttridge of East improved to 34-2 on the season by winning the 285-pound division of the Barrington Sectional. Guttridge pinned Louis Schaller of Glenbrook North and Ryan McNeal of Cary Grove to reach the final and lock down his first state berth.

In the title match, he edged familiar foe, Paul Faye of Hononegah, 2-1.

Guttridge and Fay will be joined by Auburn’s Lance Morgan at the state meet. Morgan pinned Brian Fernandez of Palatine and Edgar Vazquez of Waukegan before losing 7-3 to Faye in the semifinals.

Morgan rebounded by pinning Austin Korba of Hersey in the loser’s bracket semifinals to guarantee a top-four finish and a spot in the state tournament. Morgan dropped the third-place match to Jose Ramos of Prospect. Lance now is 24-14 for the year.

East senior Saw Htoo will be joining them at state after taking second in the 113-pound weight class. Htoo edged Rory Perlow of Deerfield 12-10 and then earned his spot at state by holding off Justin Warmowski of Grant, 3-2, to make it to the sectional final. Htoo fell to Austin Nash of Warren in the title match. Htoo, who qualified for state for the first time as well, now is 32-6.
