Taylor leads E-Rabs to fourth in J-Hawk swim invitational

ROCKFORD – Sophomore Camden Taylor’s top two finishes in two events powered East to fourth place in Saturday’s 10-team J-Hawk Swimming Invitational.

Taylor dominated the 200-yard freestyle, beating Vincent Maier of Boylan by more than seven seconds, with a time of 1:46.98.

Taylor followed that up with a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Taylor was the top finisher among the eight NIC-10 swimmers in the event.

Senior Nolan Taylor contributed to East’s showing with a fourth place in the 100 freestyle.

East scored 124 points, finishing behind regional swimming powers Sterling (first with 271), Byron (third with 215 points) and the Belvidere Co-op team. The E-Rabs beat out fellow NIC-10 squads Harlem (123 points), Guilford (108), Boylan (80) and Jefferson (49).

Guilford’s top invidual finish came from diver Danny Smith, who took first with a 285.10 score, and sophomore Chris Caruana, who finished sixth in the 50-yard freestyle.  

Jefferson’s top finish came from sophomore Mathew Ekberg, who was ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Swimming wraps up next Saturday with the NIC-10 conference swim meet.
