Super jumper leads Guilford to second in Byron indoor meet

BYRON – Guilford junior Valerie Daehler won two of the four events claimed by RPS 205 athletes Saturday at the Byron Indoor Preview meet.

Daehler won the high jump by clearing 5-foot-3 inches. She’s already cleared 5-5 at a February competition. Daehler finished third in the NIC-10 outdoor meet high jump last year with a height of 5-0.

Daehler also dominated the triple jump. Her distance of 35-feet, 2 1/2 inches was nearly 2 1/2 feet ahead of the second place jumper.

Guilford also got a second-place finish out Marquoya Polite in the 200 meeters and thirds from Maya Cable in the 55 meters and its 4×200-meter relay team.

All those finishes added up to second place finish behind Naperville Central and ahead of NIC-10 competitors Hononegah (4th), Boylan (7th) and Freeport (8th).

Jefferson’s J’Kaiya Rosario added another District 205 highlight by winning the 55-meter hurdles.

On the boys side, Auburn’s Josh Woloszyn was the only winner. He took first in the pole vault. Auburn’s Syreal Holland was second in the 55 meters, and Ryan Sweeney, also of Auburn, was third in the 1,600 meters.
