Sayyalinh qualifies for IHSA state golf tournament

Katelyn Sayyalinh fired a 75 Monday to secure a spot in the IHSA Class 2A golf tournament this weekend.

Sayyalinh, a junior at Guilford, qualified by a sold four shots at the Huntley sectional. She’s the lone District 205 golfer moving on. The Co-op golf team was one of 12 teams competing at the sectional, but they didn’t advance.

The IHSA 2A golf tournament takes place Friday and Saturday at Hickory Point Golf Club in Decatur.

Two Rockford Public Schools golfers have won girls golf state titles since the tournament was established in 1975. Kara Soderberg won for Guilford back in 1992 and Madasyn Pettersen won for Auburn in 2015.
