RPS 205 athletes win 19 events in IESA track sectional

ROCKFORD – Flinn’s 7th grade boys track team took first place in Saturday’s IESA Class AA sectional meet, and Rockford Public Schools athletes won 19 events in four divisions.

The meet at Swanson Stadium decided who would go down to this week’s IESA state track meet.

The star of the meet for RPS 205 was Flinn seventh grader Rasheed Johnson. Johnson blazed to wins in the seventh-grade 100- and 200-meter dashes as well as run the anchor legs for the first place 400-meter and 1,600-meter relay teams.

Eisenhower’s Natalyia Stallings also impressed. The sixth-grader won the girls seventh-grade 100- and 200-meter dashes. Then she ran the second leg of the first-place eighth-grade 400-meter relay team.

Flinn won the seventh-grade boys meet with 75 points to Belvidere South’s 60. Eisenhower just missed making it a RPS sweep in seventh grade, finishing second to Roscoe by one point (61-60).
