Record number of runners hit streets in 2.05 Run

ROCKFORD – The sixth annual Rockford Public Schools 2.05 Run drew a record 298 runners to downtown Rockford Saturday.

The number of participants shattered last year’s mark of 266 for the run that starts and ends at the Rockford City Market outdoor pavilion. The race is one of three annual fundraisers the Rockford Sports Coalition holds to benefit District 205’s PE and athletics programs.

Roscoe’s 23-year-old Sam Hepburn ran the course in 11:59.0, just edging Miles Lang of Rockford, who had an official time of 11:59.6. Lang, who will be a junior this fall at East, is the top returning E-Rab distance runner.

Flynn Middle School’s Michelle Gasmund also showed she is a name to remember. The eighth-grader finished first among all females and 10th overall with a time of 13:56.2. It was a big month for Gasmund. Earlier in May, she finished in the top 20 in the Illinois Elementary School Association state track meet in the 400 and 800 meters.
