Kennedy, West 7th-grade volleyballers start playoffs with win

ROCKFORD – The IESA state volleyball playoffs kicked off Monday night for seventh-graders and Kennedy and West scored wins in their regional openers.

Kennedy, the fourth seed in the Class 7-4A Flinn Middle School regional, knocked off Lincoln, the fifth seed, 25-15, 25-16.

Flinn, the third seed, handled West, 25-15, 25-16.

Kennedy takes on top-seeded Eisenhower tonight, followed by Flinn against second-seeded RESA.

Marshall is in Class 7-3A and the Mustangs play Pontiac tonight in the Peru Parkside regional.

Marshall won the RRAC North title with an 8-0 record and then knocked off Eisenhower, 25-20, 25-21, in the tournament championship.

The eighth-grade tournament begins next week. Eisenhower and Marshall tied in the RRAC North Division at 6-2 each. Flinn and RESA tied for first in the South Division at 5-2. In the postseason tournament, Flinn defeated RESA, 23-25, 25-18, 15-8.
