Jefferson has shot at second sectional title Friday

ALGONQUIN – A revived Jefferson J-Hawks squad showed up Wednesday night, overwhelming Dundee-Crown, 77-48, at Algonquin Jacobs High School to advance to Friday’s sectional finals.

The J-Hawks struggled to beat Crystal Lake South and Crystal Lake Central last week to reach the sectional. Wednesday, they raced to a 22-9 lead in the first quarter and pushed it to 42-18 by halftime. Jefferson forced the Chargers into nine turnovers and drained eight three-pointers in the first two quarters.

Jy’AirĀ Robinson, who has had an up-and-down season for Jefferson, led with 18 points.

Jefferson will be looking for just its second sectional title in school history Friday night against Elgin Larkin, which ended Auburn’s season Tuesday. Local fans are well aware of the Royals, who played eight games in Rockford this year as part of the 205 Tip-Off Classic during Thanksgiving week and Jefferson’s own J-Hawk MLK Showcase. Larkin featuresĀ 6-10 center Jalen Shaw and 6-3 guard Anthony Lynch. Those two combined for 48 of Auburn’s 60 points in Tuesday’s win against Auburn.

Jefferson, which has a school-record 26 wins, knows what its facing. The J-Hawks knocked off Larkin, 69-58, on November 25.

The game begins at 7 p.m.
