Hillman leading entries in virtual 2.05 Run

ROCKFORD – With 10 days to go to sign up and get your run in, nearly 225 already have registered for this year’s Rockford Public Schools 2.05 Run.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic restricting public gatherings, this year’s 2.05 Run is virtual. As one of the major fundraisers for the Rockford Sports Coalition, which supports athletics in the district’s high schools and middle schools, the support so far shows how much athletics still means in Rockford.

The school that has the most supporters enter wins a $500 prize and Hillman Elementary is on top halfway through the virtual race. The rest of the top five are Jefferson High School, Marshall Elementary, Rolling Green Elementary and Lincoln Middle School. Second place receives $250 towards its athletics programs.

You have until June 12 to sign up and run the race. You can sign up at  https://runsignup.com/Race/IL/Rockford/205Run.

As of June 2, 55 have completed and turned in their 2.05-mile run times. Peter Najem of Rockford is the clubhouse leader with a time of 10:58. Chloe Crosby of Rockford has the fastest time so far for women with a 17:39.

Because the race is virtual, any interested runner can enter from anywhere in the world. If you know of RPS 205 alumni who might want to support the cause, send them this link: https://app.upmetrics.com/o/rockford_sports_coalition.
