Guilford takes sixth in state cheerleading

Guilford’s cheerleading squad made District 205 history by finishing in sixth place in the co-ed division of today’s IHSA Cheerleading championships.

The Vikings are the first District 205 squad to place in state since the IHSA made cheerleading a competitive sport in 2005-2006.

The Vikings compiled a score of 85.03 points. Belvidere North won the co-ed state title for the second straight year with a score of 93.97. The outstanding showing comes a season after Guilford couldn’t field a team for the NIC-10 championships because of internal strife over a coaching change. Kali Kupkowski coached the squad this year.
