Guilford picks up lone RPS victory on first night of Showcase II

ROCKFORD – The Guilford Vikings knocked off Chicago Prosser, 56-45, Friday night at Guilford to pick up the only RPS 205 win on the first night of the Chicagoland Summer Showcase II.

Rockford East was among the first teams to play. The E-Rabs rallied from an early 13-1 deficit to take Lincoln (Nebraska) NE North Star to overtime before falling 54-52.

Jefferson trailed by 11 points in the second half against Rock Island before rallying. George Williams had a late three-point attempt bang off the back rim, allowing the Rocks to hold on, 59-57.

Auburn had the toughest assignment. The Knights took on St. Louis Vashon, which has won three of the past four state titles in Missouri’s largest class. The Knights faded late in a 72-48 loss.

This weekend’s Chicagoland Summer Showcase features 67 varsity high school teams from eight states. Play picks up again Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at Rock Valley College, Guilford and Auburn high schools.
