Guilford golfers have solid first day at IHSA state tournaments

DECATUR – Guilford junior Kayla Sayyalinh kept slim state title hopes alive Friday by shooting a 75 Friday at Hickory Point in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A state tournament.

trails Mia Natividad of Yorkville by five shots going into Saturday’s final round.

Guilford senior Andrew Carey shot a 2-over-par 74 at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington in the boys 3A tournament. That put him in 28th place, meaning he has work to do to finish in the top 10, which earns an IHSA medal.

Carey was the only Rockford area golfer to qualify for the 3A tournament.
