Guilford boys team, four others advance to sectionals

Guilford’s boys golf team moved on from a tough IHSA regional in DeKalb Tuesday, taking third out of seven teams.

DeKalb’s Jack Paeglow shot a remarkable 69 to lead the Barbs to a 32-shot win over Rockton Hononegah. Paeglow, a sophomore, was the only player to break 80.

Senior Kyle Ketchum led Guilford with an 81. The Vikings survived by beating Belvidere North by four shots. Troy Swanson added an 83, Conrad Cuevas an 89 and Jack Snedegar a 95. All of Guilford’s qualifying scores came from seniors.

Auburn and East finished sixth and seventh, but some Knights and one E-Rab survived to play another day. Joe Rock (81), Jack Alexander (86) and Adam Kuhar (90) moved on to sectionals for Auburn, while Jack Masters qualified for the E-Rabs with a 92.

The sectionals will be October 9.
