Four RPS schools battling for IESA regional volleyball title

ROCKFORD – Flinn and Lincoln middle schools advanced to the eighth grade IESA Class 4A regional semifinals with Tuesday night wins.

The Falcons, seeded third, ousted sixth-seeded West, 25-12, 25-9, in West’s gymnasium. Kennedy scored a mild upset. The fifth-seeded Cougars knocked off Lincoln, 25-15, 25-23.

The IESA regional will wrap up tonight at West with the semifinals being played at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and the championship match at 6:30 p.m. RESA, the No. 1 seed, plays Kennedy first, followed by the second seed, Eisenhower, playing Flinn.

Wednesday should be a wide-open affair. RESA went 5-2 during the regular season, tying for first with Flinn in the RRAC South division, while Eisenhower tied with Marshall for first in the RRAC North with a 6-2 record. Flinn, though, won the postseason tournament, beating RESA 2-1 in the title match.
