Four 205 wrestlers make title matches in Flinn Invitational

ROCKFORD – Lee Smith of Flinn Middle School won the 215-pound weight class in the Flinn Falcons Middle School Wrestling Invitational Friday and three Eisenhower wrestlers earned second-place medals.

Smith improved to 7-0 on the season. He pinned Alex Lotito of Sycamore in 2:15, Jason Gutierrez of Waldo in 3:45 and Nikolas Cannell of Harlem in 3:56.

Eisenhower’s Mugisho Mubark is 5-4 on the season after taking second at 70 pounds. Peter Young is 6-2 after taking second at 80 pounds. And David Avila now is 5-2 after finishing second in 112 pounds.

Nine other District 205 wrestlers finished in the top six in their brackets:

  • Deterrace Dotson, Flinn, third place, 105 pounds.
  • Qasem Ali, Lincoln, third place, 126 pounds.
  • Zavion Wright, Kennedy, fourth place, 126 pounds.
  • William Hall, Flinn, fourth place, 135 pounds.
  • Shawnquez Simmons, fifth place, 90 pounds.
  • Rashad Hyder, Eisenhower, fifth place, 95 pounds.
  • Austin Nelson, Flinn, sixth place, 119 pounds.
  • Braylan Iverson, Flinn, sixth place, 145 pounds.
  • Fabian Mancilla, Flinn, sixth place, 185 pounds.

The tournament drew more than 240 wrestlers from 15 schools. Flinn was the highest RPS finisher at sixth place and Eisenhower was 10th.
