Final salute to Auburn’s Gabi Christidis

ROCKFORD – Gabi Christidis went out in style in a dominant soccer career at Auburn High School.

Christidis was one of five Rockford Public Schools 205 players named first team All-NIC-10 in girls soccer. It was Christidis’ third straight year on the first team and the announcement was a formality, considering the midfielder ran away with the scoring race.

Christidis, who will play soccer beginning this fall at Robert Morris University, scored an amazing 41 goals in 22 games. She added four assists for 86 total points. Frankie Schiro of Boylan was a distant second with 60 (23 goals and 14 assists).

Powered by Christidis and led by NIC-10 coach of the year Victor Rodriguez, the Knights went 5-4 in conference play after going 1-8 in 2018.

While Christidis is moving on to collegiate soccer, RPS 205 will have several strong players returning for the 2019-2020 school year. All of the other first team NIC-10 players will be back. They are:

  • Maddie Martinez, Auburn, freshman, forward.
  • Courtney Hinrichs, Guilford, junior, forward.
  • Olivia Zediker, Guilford, junior, midfielder.
  • Jamie Ward, East, defender.

Four RPS 205 players were named special mention, Alison Karkmaz of Auburn, Hailey Hunter of East, Jackie Galvan of Guilford and Yanelli Delgado of Jefferson. Hunter and Delgado are juniors and will be back next year.
