East’s Gray dazzles at boys NIC-10 track meet

Rockford Public Schools athletes won nine events at Friday night’s NIC-10 boys track meet at Harlem, led by a strong night from East sprinter Marquez Gray.

Gray won both the 100- and 200-meter dashes and then teamed up with Javius Catlin, Jeremiah Crawford and Deterrace Dotson to win the 4×200-meter relay.

Gray’s big night led the E-Rabs to a fourth-place finish. East also got first-place finishes from Makarious Luster in the 400 meters and Hunter Scanlon in the shot put.

Guilford finished third behind standout performances from A’Tiq Muhammad and Joe Gibbons. Muhammad took first in the high jump and the long jump, finished second in the 400-mter dash and teamed up with Gibbons, Owen Dahlberg and Sebastian Colon to take third in the 4×400-meter relay. Gibbons also teamed with Dahlberg, Jackson Durso and Brandon Lawson to win the 4×800-meter relay and Gibbons took first in the 800-meter run.
