East takes command in NIC-10

ROCKFORD – The East E-Rabs rallied from a five-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Boylan Titans, 59-50, Wednesday night, moving into first place alone in the NIC-10.

The Titans were able to contain Sha’den Clanton, holding him to six points. But Sincere Parker exploded for 27 and Chris Burnell, now the team’s point guard, scored 12 of his 13 points in the second half to lead the comeback.

East, which hasn’t won the NIC-10 boys basketball title since the great 1980-1981 team that was led by Andre Goode and Allen Robinson, now is 3-0 in the NIC-10 and 7-0 overall. The E-Rabs already have raised expectations around the state. East was ranked 10th in 4A in the first Associated Press poll of the season.

Jefferson moved into a tie for second place with a 65-49 win over Hononegah at Jefferson. Jaquavion Robinson led the J-Hawks (2-1, 5-2) with 17 points and LaJuan Morris had 15.

Guilford also is tied for second after beating Belvidere, 66-37. The Vikings also are 2-1, 5-2.
