Dundee-Crown wins first Auburn Battle for the Castle

ROCKFORD – Dundee-Crown knocked off Clinton, 42-25, Saturday to win the inaugural Battle for the Castle at Auburn High School.

Twelve girls basketball programs played Saturday. Clinton, Wisconsin, Dundee-Crown, Normal Community and Hononegah high schools each won their pools with 2-0 records. Clinton edged Hononegah, 36-32, in the semifinals and Dundee-Crown beat Hononegah 43-23. 

Hononegah knocked off Normal, 31-24, to win the third-place game.

Auburn, East and Guilford represented Rockford Public School 205 in the tournament.

  • The Knights went 2-2 on the day. Auburn lost to Clinton, 60-44, before rebounding to beat Peoria, 34-12, in pool play. In bracket play, Auburn beat East, 46-33, and lost to Thornton, 42-35.
  • The E-Rabs were 1-3. East lost to Normal, 37-28, and edged Harlem, 43-40, in pool play. In bracket play, the E-Rabs dropped the game against Auburn and lost to Guilford, 40-16.
  • The Vikings finished the day 2-2. Guilford edged Stillman Valley, 30-26, but lost to Dundee-Crown, 43-23, in pool play. In brackets, the Vikings beat East but lost to Thornton, 39-28.
