Distance runners excelled at AAU indoor meet

ROCKFORD – More than 500 athletes filled the Auburn field house this past weekend for the Northern AAU National Indoor Championship and one District 205 runner came away with a title.

Jonah Garcia of Auburn took first place in the 16-year-old 1,500 meters. Garcia, running for Rockford FIRE Track Club ran the race in 4:28.91, beating Jesse Golden’s 4:30.84.

In the 17-19-year-old 1,500 meter finals, East’s Noah Fricks took fourth and Andrew Baxter of Auburn was fifth. Baxter was running for the Rockford FIRE Trac Club. Nathan Fox of Oak Creek Track Club was the winner.

Friske won the NIC-10 cross country championship this fall and is the defending conference 3,200-meter champion.
