Guilford building Hall of Fame football coaching staff

Denny Diduch, who coached Forreston High School to two IHSA state football titles, will join Bruce Bazsali’s staff as an assistant coach for the 2018 season.

Bazsali, who was inducted into the Illinois Football Coaches Association in 2006, took over Guilford in 2017 and the Vikings jumped from 1-8 to 4-5. In Diduch, Bazsali is adding someone who will join him in the IFCA hall at some point. Diduch compiled a 87-27 record in 10 years at Forreston. The Cardinals won IHSA championships in 2014 and 2016 and fell to eventual state-champion Lena-Winslow in 2017 in the semifinals.

The move still has to approved by the school board, and Diduch’s exact role is yet to be determined.

“I am hoping there will be a lot of buzz about Guilford football next year,” Bazsali told the Rockford Register Star. “We’ll be young in some places, but we’re bringing quite a few kids back. The whole thing is to keep building a future and a culture of kids who are disciplined and want to succeed.”

Bazsali has a record of attracting talented coaches. He was joined at Guilford in 2017 by Tim Sughroue and Jeff Luedke. Sughroue was head coach at Hononegah High School for 10 years with a 73-32 record and eight straight playoff appearances. Luedke is a 1970 Guilford grad and member of Guilford’s Hall of Fame.
