Boys summer league basketball kicks off Monday

ROCKFORD – Summer “break” is a misnomer for high school athletes. 

The nine to 10 weeks in between semesters is crucial to get better. Because of the brutal winter weather, school ends this week and summer basketball play begins next week.

The East High School Varsity Summer League features 16 schools playing from June 3 to the June 25 tournament title game.

Monday’s night’s opening night schedule is as follows:

6 p.m. – Harlem vs. Lutheran
7 p.m. – Harlem vs. Janesville Parker
8 p.m. – East vs. South Beloit
9 p.m. – East vs. Beloit Memorial

6 p.m. – Hononegah vs. Janesville Parker
7 p.m. – Hononegah vs. Belvidere North
8 p.m. – Jefferson vs. Winnebago
9 p.m. – Jefferson vs. Auburn

6 p.m. – Dixon vs. Belvidere North
7 p.m. – Dixon vs. Freeport
8 p.m. – Byron vs. Rochelle
9 p.m. – Byron vs. South Beloit
