Bannister rolls her way to best state bowling finish in Auburn history

O’FALLON – Auburn sophomore Caitlyn Bannister caught fire Saturday, charging up the IHSA state bowling leaderboard to finish third.

Bannister rolled series of 687 and 607 on Friday to put herself in eighth place. On Saturday, she followed up with series of 614 and 624. Her final score of 2,532 topped Chloe Siezega by one pin and Gina Russell of Minooka by 11.

It is the highest finish ever for an Auburn girls bowler. Bannister is just the second Auburn girls bowler to place at state. Megan Hunsberger finished in the top 10 three times, taking fourth in 1997 and 1999 and sixth in 1998.

Carrie Minnier of Guilford finished 35th overall. Tegan Peterson of East finished 53rd.
