Auburn’s Holland speeds his way to state

ROCKFORD – Syreal Holland, the two-time NIC-10 100-meter dash champion, won both the 100- and 200-meter titles at Friday’s IHSA Class 3A sectional meet at Guilford.

Holland raced to a :11.08 in the 100, comfortably beating Antonio Passarelli of Huntley’s :11.19. Holland won the NIC-10 100-meter title last week with a time of :11.04.

Holland followed it up by running the 200 meters in 21.92 to again beat Passarelli, who recorded a :22.25. The 200 performance was exceptional for Holland, who ran a :22.38 last week when winning the NIC-10 200.

Next week, Holland will attempt to be the first Knight to medal at state since Cory Tucker took seventh in the pole vault in 2014. The last Auburn sprinter to medal in either the 100 or 200 was Gerald Bell, who took sixth in the 100 in 1972 and 1973.
