Auburn team, Jefferson bowler advance to state

ROCKFORD – Big days from junior Carson Soles and senior Matt Seigel powered the Auburn boys bowling team into next week’s IHSA state bowling tournament.

The Knights finished fifth in Saturday’s IHSA bowling sectional at Don Carter Lane, easily advancing as a team.

Auburn went with five bowlers all six games Saturday. Seigel led the way with a 1,269 – a 211.5 average – and Soles was next with 1,222. The other Auburn bowlers and there scores were Preston Sims (1,190), Payton Alexander (1,155) and Kai Horton (1,154).

The Knights will be joined by Jefferson’s Landen Cowell, who advanced individually with an impressive 1,352 score. That’s a 225.3 average.

The state tournament is next Friday and Saturday at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.
