Auburn sends five to state tennis meet

Two doubles teams and Auburn’s top singles player qualified for the IHSA Class 2A tennis meet Saturday at Harlem.

Drew Licari and Sharankumar Kamaraj will be heading to state on a roll. The NIC-10 doubles champions were up 5-2 over Hononegah in the sectionals when the Indians team had to drop out.

They’ll be joined by Isaac Bernsten and Dhruv Ramaswami, who finished fourth in the sectional.

Auburn’s Chris Park easily qualified as well. The NIC-10 singles champion advanced to the finals Saturday where he lost to Hononegah’s Thomas Ptacin, 6-4, 6-4. Park had never lost to Ptacin before, but the goal of the weekend was to qualify for state.

Three players from Guilford will be making the trip to state as well. Joe Gesmer finished third in singles to qualify and Jeff Snedegar and Drew Stadelman teamed up to take third in doubles.
