Auburn just misses third scholastic bowl state title

PEORIA – For the second straight year, Auburn hopes of a third state scholastic bowl title were dashed in a 430-390 loss.

In 2017-2018, the Knights made it to the title match only to lose to Lincolnshire Stevenson, 430-390.

Friday morning, Auburn reversed that loss by beating Stevenson, 480-380, in the final match of pool play to again make the IHSA Class 2A scholastic bowl finals.

Unfortunately, they came up a couple of answers short, falling to Urbana University by that dreaded 430-390 score.

University Laboratory High School is a public school located on the engineering section of the University of Illinois campus in Urbana. Although the school is public, it admits about 65 students a year based on academic history, extracurriculars and admission test scores. It has three Nobel laureates and a Pulitzer Prize winner among its alumni.

It is the second time Urbana University has won an IHSA state title. It’s other title was in 2015 as a Class A school. For Auburn, it is the seventh time it has finished second in the state. The Knights were looking to add to the state titles won in 2008 and 2015.
