Auburn to play No. 4 seed in IHSA football playoffs

Rockford Auburn will play at Arlington Heights Hersey in the first round of the IHSA Class 7A football playoffs.

Hersey at 8-1 drew a No. 4 seed, while Auburn is 29th out of 32. It will be Auburn’s seventh trip to the IHSA playoffs since they were started in 1974 and sixth in eight years.

Although Auburn is the only RPS 205 team making a trip to the playoffs, there was discernable progress in three of the four district programs.

  • Auburn improved from 3-6 to 5-4 in the second season under coach J.P. Toldo.
  • Jefferson went 3-6 in the first season under coach Jake Arnold. The J-Hawks had gone 1-17 the prior two seasons.
  • Guilford won its last game of the season to snap an 18-game losing streak. It was the second season under coach Denny Diduch, but the first where he was able to instill his own system.
