Auburn dominates scholastic bowl sectional

BELVIDERE – Auburn’s scholastic bowl state dynasty was never threatened Saturday as the Knights qualified for the IHSA state tournament for the 18th straight year.

The Knights won their three Class AA sectional matches in dominating fashion, beating Crystal Lake Central, Belvidere and Burlington Central by a combined score of 2,290 to 190. Only the Bucs scored as many as 100 points.

Auburn will face familiar foes down in Peoria next weekend. Among the advancing schools are the Illinois Math and Science Academy and Lincolnshire Stevenson.

The Illinois Math and Science Academy has won the scholastic bowl state championship 13 times since it became an official IHSA event in 1986-1987. Lincolnshire Stevenson has won four state scholastic bowl titles, including last year when the Patriots beat the Knights in the title match, 430-390.

Auburn has won two IHSA Class 2A scholastic bowl titles (2008 and 2015) and finished second six times.
