Guilford takes fifth in Northern Illinois Chess League

Guilford’s chess team finished fifth overall out of 15 teams in the Northern Illinois Chess League (NICL) conference tournament at Jefferson Saturday afternoon.

It was a busy day at Jefferson. The J-Hawks were hosting their annual J-Hawk MLK Showcase in the basketball gym, its annual swimming invitational and the NICL chess tournament.

Jeremiah Davis was the top finisher on Board 1, taking third behind Kyle Packard of Grant High School and Jason Drews of Cary-Grove. Michael Hernandez was seventh.
