Flinn to take on Harlem for RRAC football title

Flinn Middle School will take on Harlem Middle School in the in the inaugural football title game for the Rock River Valley Conference Saturday at Wyeth Stadium.

The Rockford Public Schools and three other districts launched the middle school conference this year to give schools a chance to compete at a state level at a younger age.

RPS, Freeport and Harlem had schools play in the eight-team football league in its first year. Flinn won the South Division with a 5-2 record over Lincoln (4-3), Freeport (4-3) and RESA (1-6). Harlem (7-0) won the North Division over Kennedy (5-2), West (1-6) and Eisenhower (1-6).

Flinn reached the championship game by knocking off Kennedy, 28-0, this past Saturday at Wyeth. Harlem topped Lincoln, 40-8, also at Wyeth.

Harlem knocked off Flinn earlier this year, 34-24, at Harlem Middle School. The JV title game starts at 10 a.m. with Harlem playing Eisenhower. The varsity title game is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
